The Braunschweiger Stadtlexikon is a two-volume encyclopedia that contains not only entries on history, economy, society, topography, culture, education and science but also the biographies of people who describe the development of the city ​​of Braunschweig or "the Braunschweig", i.e. the Duchy of Braunschweig- Lüneburg (with its partial principalities), Duchy of Braunschweig , Free State of Braunschweig or the Braunschweiger Land have had a lasting influence or are otherwise connected to it. Both volumes cover a period of well over 1000 years with their around 1500 keywords.

The first volume of Braunschweiger Stadtlexikon was published in 1992 “on behalf of the city of Braunschweig” by Joh. Heinr. Meyer . The editors were Luitgard Camerer , then director of the Braunschweig City Library , Manfred Garzmann , then Director of the Braunschweig City Archives, and Wolf-Dieter Schuegraf , the then Director of the Braunschweig City Libraries. Norman-Mathias Pingel was a “special” employee. More than 1000 keywords are dealt with on 262 pages. The volume also contains a list of the authors (a total of over 130 for both volumes) and a list of abbreviations.

The second volume Braunschweiger Stadtlexikon - supplementary volume , was published in 1996 by the same publisher and contains 450 additional keywords on 150 pages, most of which are based on the lively feedback from readers of the first volume. This time the editors were only Garzmann and Schuegraf. Norman-Mathias Pingel was again an “essential” employee.
