Frank Allen (born June 28, 1927 in Shirebrook , † February 2, 2014 in Chesterfield ) was an English football player .

Career

Allen, previously a player at Langwith Imperial , was already registered as an amateur at Chesterfield FC in the 1948/49 season , and he first played in the third team in the Yorkshire League during the 1948/49 season ; mostly on the two external rotor positions . At the beginning of the 1950/51 season, Allen was still part of the Chesterfield squad as an amateur and was increasingly called up as a left winger in the second team in the Central League during the season ; in March 1951 he finally moved up to the professional. His first two appearances in the Football League Third Division North Allen denied in October 1951 instead of Pat Maxwell on left winger, but most of the season he continued to play in the two reserve teams. Allen had his third and final appearance for the first team in April 1953 in a 2-0 home win against Hartlepools United as a left defender , a position he previously held a number of times in the reserve teams.

For the 1953/54 season Allen moved to third division rivals Mansfield Town and impressed the new coach Stan Mercer in the preparation for the season . Nevertheless, he only came to a series of three missions at the end of September 1953, in the following twelve months a total of three appearances, optionally as a left runner or left defender, the two defensive positions in the left half of the field were otherwise mostly from Don Bradley and Sid Watson occupied. After six appearances in two seasons with Mansfield's first team, his time in the Football League ended , in the following years he played in the Central Alliance for Langwith Miners Welfare and together with his former Chesterfield teammate Jackie Hudson for Shirebrook Miners Welfare .
