Frank B. Colton

Frank Benjamin Colton (March 3, 1923 - November 25, 2003 ) was an American chemist .

Life

Colton immigrated to the United States at a young age. He studied chemistry at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago . In 1951 he got a job with the US company GD Searle & Company , where he worked until 1986.

In 1952 he developed the progestin norethynodrel there . This led to the development of the active ingredient Enovid for a contraceptive pill , which, however, had already been developed by Carl Djerassi and Luis E. Miramontes .
