Frankie Dusen
Frank "Frankie" Dusen junior , also Duson (* 1880 in Algiers (Louisiana) ; † 1940 ) was an American (valve) trombonist and band leader of New Orleans jazz .
Dusen came from Algiers across from New Orleans on the Mississippi. He played in the band of Buddy Bolden in New Orleans and in 1907 took over the band from the increasingly demented Buddy Bolden and continued it as the Eagle Band . They were very popular in New Orleans until 1917. That year he decided to join Jelly Roll Morton in Los Angeles with other band members like Buddy Petit and Wade Whaley . Dusen and the others fell out with Morton, who made fun of the provincial dressed and provincial musicians from New Orleans. On his return to New Orleans in 1918, he formed a new band with which he also played on the Mississippi steamer SS Capitol. He later played occasionally with the Louis Dumaine orchestra . He died impoverished.
During his time in New Orleans, like Bolden, he was considered a womanizer and a gambler. Danny Barker described him as tall, who with his full black hair would look like an Indian and rarely smiled.
