Frank Erbguth

Frank Erbguth (born May 27, 1956 in Hof an der Saale ) is a German neurologist, psychiatrist, psychologist and university professor at the Friedrich-Alexander University (FAU) Erlangen-Nuremberg and at the Paracelsus Medical Private University (PMU), Nuremberg.

Live and act

Erbguth studied human medicine and psychology (Dipl. Psych. Univ.) Between 1976 and 1983 at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg . His further education took place in the clinics for neurology, neurosurgery (neuroradiology) and psychiatry at FAU Erlangen Nuremberg. The doctorate to Dr. med. was carried out with an empirical work on the placebo and nocebo effect . In addition to his specialist designation in neurology and psychiatry, he acquired additional qualifications in intensive care medicine and geriatrics. From 1988 he set up an outpatient clinic for dystonia and botulinum toxin therapy at the Neurological Clinic of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. The habilitation (Dr. med. Habil.) With obtaining the license to teach (private lecturer) took place in 1996 with a thesis on the treatment of cervical dystonia ( torticollis spasmodicus ) with botulinum toxin . In 1997 he was responsible for the planning, construction and commissioning of the stroke unit at the Neurological Clinic of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 1998 he was offered a C3 professorship at the Neurological Clinic of the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg. Since 2014 he has been a professor at the Paracelsus Medical Private University in Salzburg (PMU) in Nuremberg.

Since May 2001 he has been Medical Director of the Clinic for Neurology at the Nuremberg Clinic .

research

Erbguth's research and clinical focuses include stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases, neurological emergency and intensive care medicine, dystonic movement disorders and botulinum toxin therapy, inflammatory and infectious diseases of the nervous system, as well as medical history and medical ethics.

Memberships

Awards

In 2014 Frank Erbguth received the Justinus Kerner Prize from the city of Weinsberg.

Erbguth is the author and co-author of book chapters and scientific publications on the above mentioned areas.
