Frank Kontny

Frank Kontny (born December 21, 1964 in Essen ) is a former German soccer player and current soccer coach .

Kontny was active in the 2nd Bundesliga for SG Wattenscheid 09 (1984 to 1989) and Rot-Weiss Essen (1989 to 1994). He played 79 games and scored 14 goals. In lower leagues he played for both Rot-Weiss and local rivals Schwarz-Weiß Essen (1994 to 1998). With RWE he became German amateur champion in 1992 .

After his active time he was the sporting director and in 2003 interim trainer at Rot-Weiss Essen and took over as head trainer for Black-White Essen in the amateur upper league of North Rhine for the 2006/07 season. On April 30, 2008 he announced that he would be leaving the club at the end of the 2007/08 season, and on May 2, 2008 he was released from his duties. He then became the sports director at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen . His contract was prematurely extended for another season in April 2012.

Frank Kontny is the older brother of the soccer player Dirk Kontny and ran a kiosk in Essen-Borbeck until July 2019 .
