Frank Lawton was born in London to theater actors. He began his stage career in 1923 at the Vaudeville Theater in the play Yes . His early successful roles include George in Mrs. Cheney's End (1925), Woodley in Young Woodley (1928), David in Michael and Mary (1930) and Hec Hammond in London Wall (1931). In 1930 the Londoner was brought in for the early sound film adaptation of the successful stage drama Young Woodley , and in his film debut he also played the student Woodley, who falls in love with his teacher's wife. Lawton continued to be present in front of the camera, playing leading roles in different genres.
