Frank Vanhecke

Frank Vanhecke (born May 30, 1959 in Bruges ) is a right-wing Belgian politician.

He was chairman of the Vlaams Blok from 1996 and chairman of the successor party Vlaams Belang since 2004 . The Vlaams Blok was classified as separatist , xenophobic and racist by a ruling by the Belgian Supreme Court in November 2004 and therefore disbanded.

Vanhecke's political career began with a membership in the Jong Student Union and later in the Nationalistische Studentenvereniging (Nationalist Student Association). In 1977 he left the Volksunie and became a member of the Vlaams Nationale Partij , a predecessor of the Vlaams Blok.

Vanhecke was a member of the 4th , 6th and 7th European Parliament . In January 2007 he joined the newly founded right wing parliamentary group " Identity, Tradition, Sovereignty ", which was dissolved in November 2007. Vanhecke left Vlaams Belang on July 11, 2011. In November 2011 he joined the Europe of Freedom and Democracy Group .

From 2009 to 2014 Vanhecke was a member of the Development Committee , the Human Rights Subcommittee and the Delegation for Relations with Australia and New Zealand. He was a deputy in the Committee on Budgetary Control and in the delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly.
