The Franke-Haus-Museum , also known as the Outjo-Museum , is the city history museum in Outjo , Namibia . The museum is located in the house of the same name from 1899, one of the oldest buildings in the city.
The building was erected in 1899 as accommodation for the local manager and was then known as "Kliphuis" ( Afrikaans for stone house ). It was later named after the commander of the Schutztruppe, Erich Viktor Karl August Franke .
Today the museum shows exhibits on regional and city history and has a small natural history and mineral exhibition:
- Precious and semi- precious stones
- Animal horns , skins and animal bones
- Antique furniture and craft tools
In the adjoining building of the small museum, souvenirs are made and sold by local women.
