Frankie Edgar (* 16th October 1981 in Toms River, New Jersey , USA as Frank James Edgar ) is an American mixed martial arts fighters. His match record is 20 wins, four losses and one draw.

The wrestler from Toms River , New Jersey made his winning MMA debut on October 29, 2005 at an event organized by the Ring of Combat . Two more victories followed, one in Sportfighting and another in Ring of Combat . He then fought twice for Reality Fighting , where he became lightweight champion.

Then Edgar came to the UFC . In his first fight in February 2007, he defeated Tyson Griffin on points. After beating Mark Bocek and Spencer Fisher, Edgar suffered his first defeat at UFC Fight Night 13 in April 2008 against Gray Maynard . At Fight Night 14 he then won against Hermes Franca. At UFC 98 in May 2009, Edgar met former lightweight champion Sean Sherk and defeated him unanimously on points. After he had defeated his next opponent with Matt Veach in December, a title fight against the Lightweight Champion B.J. Penn scheduled. The fight at UFC 112 went over the full distance of five rounds and in the end Frankie Edgar was the new title holder. Edgar also won the rematch in August at UFC 118 . On January 1, Edgar met Maynard again. The fight ended in a draw and so he remained as a champion.

Due to the tie, a rematch was scheduled, this should initially take place on May 28, 2011 at UFC 130 , but was postponed due to injuries to both fighters. On October 8, UFC 136 saw the fight that Edgar won in the fourth round by knocking out. His next title defense was scheduled for UFC 144 on February 26, 2012 against Benson Henderson after he defeated Clay Guida. Edgar lost the fight by decision, but an immediate rematch was scheduled for August 11, 2012 at UFC 150 . Edgar lost again on points and switched to featherweight, where he lost the title fight against José Aldo at UFC 156 . After that, however, Edgar won five featherweight bouts in a row, including against BJ Penn and Chad Mendes .
