José Aldo (born September 9, 1986 in Manaus ) is a Brazilian MMA fighter. He was the last featherweight champion of the organizer World Extreme Cagefighting and after the integration into the Ultimate Fighting Championship their first. His competitive career includes 28 wins and seven losses.
Life
Aldo started his MMA career in August 2004 in his native Brazil. There he fought at various events, including Shooto . He also competed twice in Great Britain and once in Japan . With a record of ten wins and one defeat, he then had his first fight at WEC in June 2008 , where he defeated Alexandre Franca Nogueira by TKO. In the same way, he defeated the later Ultimate Fighter Jonathan Brookins in November . This was followed by a victory over Rolando Perez by KO in January 2009, as well as victories by TKO over Chris Mickle in March and over Cub Swanson after 8 seconds in June. In the main fight of the WEC 44 in November he competed against the WEC featherweight title holder Mike Thomas Brown and became the new champion after a TKO victory in the second round. He was able to defend this title in April 2010 against Urijah Faber on points and in September against Manny Gamburyan by knockout.
After the incorporation of the WEC in the UFC , which was held until then without the featherweight class , José Aldo was awarded the title of UFC Featherweight Champion on November 20, 2010 . He first had to defend this title on April 30, 2011 against Mark Hominick, whom he defeated by point decision. His next title defense took place on October 8, 2011 against Kenny Florian , against whom he also triumphed on points. On January 14, 2012, he defended the title in his native Brazil. There he was able to defeat Chad Mendes by knockout in the first round. Overall, he successfully defended the UFC featherweight title seven times. However, on December 12, 2015, he lost his title to Conor McGregor . The fight, which received a lot of media attention, ended in the first round after Aldo was knocked out after 13 seconds, making it the fastest title fight in the history of the UFC. Because McGregor did not want to defend the featherweight title, Aldo was named champion again shortly after his win against Frankie Edgar in the fight for the interim belt at UFC 200 .
However, the first title defense of his second reign was lost at UFC 212 on June 3, 2017 against Max Holloway through a knockout in the third round. José Aldo also lost the rematch against Max Holloway at UFC 218 on December 2, 2017 through TKO in the third round.
