Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers were a 1950s New York R&B vocal band that got their name from the fact that all five members were between 13 and 16 years old in the band's short history.

Band history

The Teenagers formed in 1956 when Frankie Lymon joined a doo wop band called The Premiers , which was made up of Negroni, Santiago, Merchant, and Garnes. That same year, worldwide fame came in the form of the song Why Do Fools Fall in Love , which was released on Gee Records and became a number 1 R&B hit. In the US Top 100, the song came in 7th and sold over a million copies. In the UK, it hit # 1 on the pop charts. The band took part in various tours, both in the US and overseas, and also starred in various rock 'n' roll films such as rock, rock, rock . Other hit songs from '56 included I Want You to Be My Girl , Who Can Explain and The ABC's of Love .

The official separation took place in August. The teenagers didn't succeed after that and Frankie Lymon was only able to land a small chart hit again, in 1960 with Little Bitty Pretty One , despite numerous publications . Lymon died in 1968, Garnes and Negroni in 1977 and 1978, respectively. The teenagers were reshuffled and are still on the way today.

In 1993, Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in 2000 the Vocal Group Hall of Fame . Musicians like Michael Jackson , Diana Ross , Smokey Robinson and Len Barry show clear influences of teenagers in their repertoire.
