The Franklin rock is a small cliff rocks in the archipelago of Heard Island and McDonald Islands in the southern Indian Ocean . It is located about 2 km west of Cape Arkona on the island of Heard .
The rock is named after the American tender Franklin from New London , Connecticut , who went to Heard Island in 1855 for a seal hunt .
