František Bednář

František Bednář

František Bednář (born July 10, 1884 in Vír ( Moravia ), † July 11, 1963 in Prague ) was a Czech Protestant pastor and theologian.

Life

Bednář worked as a vicar from 1909 to 1912, then as a pastor in Valašské Klobouky until 1919 and then in the Kliment parish in Prague until 1927 . In 1922 he was appointed lecturer at the Hus evangelical theological faculty in Prague. He held his professorship here until 1952. During this time he was dean of the faculty twice.

Teaching

Bednář published his practical-theoretical views, which deny a doctrine as spread by the institution of the church, in a number of theological writings and articles. He taught that it was important to study the scriptures of Christianity rather than the interpretations of the Church. He did not simply reject the methods used, but called for them to be carried out so that practical theology would fill the current situation of Christianity with meaning.

Bednář expanded practical theology to include disciplines that can be summarized under the term attempt to establish non-ecclesiastical Christianity in the world . In other works he dealt with canon law and turned his attention to social issues.

Bednář showed great interest in history. He wrote a memorandum on the Bishop of the Brethren Union Jan Augusta and articles on the history of the Union.
