Priorities of the French EU Presidency

French President Emmanuel Macron wants, should he be re-elected on April 10, 2022 (see: Presidential election in France 2022 ), put the European Union on a growth path. After the COVID-19 crisis, a new European growth model must drive innovation and job creation, ensure competitiveness and be in line with climate protection goals.

To make such investments z. For example, to advance climate protection, digitization and defense, rigid adherence to the Maastricht criteria would have to be reconsidered in individual cases if necessary.

Another priority of the Council Presidency should be the strengthening of European sovereignty with better protection of the external borders. This should be made possible, among other things, in crisis situations through mutual help from the border guards. In the areas of migration and asylum, the rules and harmonization are to be promoted.

In the field of defense, common interests are to be formulated and threats and crises as well as the requirements for strategic European sovereignty are to be defined. It should propose the establishment of a crisis response system. This should also help in crises at the borders. A new European defense strategy is also intended to help expand the EU's military capabilities.

A sharper jointly coordinated action against hatred in social networks in the EU is also to be achieved.
