The Protestant village church in Quitzow is a Gothic hall church in the Quitzow district of Perleberg in the Prignitz district in Brandenburg . It belongs to the Perleberg parish district in the Prignitz church district of the Berlin -Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia Evangelical Church and became known as the pastorate of Angela Merkel 's father , Horst Kasner . The later Federal Chancellor lived in the rectory there in the early years of her life.

history and architecture

Under the patronage of the von Quitzow family, the stately Gothic fieldstone building with a recessed chancel and west tower was expanded in several stages to become one of the most important village churches in Prignitz . The flat-roofed nave was probably built at the beginning of the 14th century from carefully hewn ashlars with a circumferential grooved base; the roof structure was dendrochronologically dated to 1543 (d). The recessed rectangular chancel in brick from around 1292 (d) is richer in appearance. The east side is designed with three high, staggered lancets, the middle one reaching into the gable, outside and inside with a surrounding round rod in the profiled robe . The gable slopes are decorated with rising stair friezes that develop from the corner pilaster strips.

The windows were mostly changed; Approaches suggest that tracery was formerly present (see the church in Alt Ruppin , which is closely related in the system and in many details ). The portals on the north and south side of the nave date from the construction period, the walls made of shaped stones are chamfered and rounded off with inserted round bars, the northern one with a marked impost zone , the added southern one is provided with layers of brown glazed bricks. The extraordinarily rich choir south portal was created around 1300; in the robes and archivolts bundle sticks and rope rods are inserted, imposts and bases are decorated with leaf ornaments, which are similar to the portals of the town parish church in Perleberg ; originally this was probably the manorial entrance, which is now covered by the vestibule from 1893 (a beam dated 1602 probably comes from the forerunner).

The mighty, square west tower was built from field stone around 1500, the segmental arch portal in the south wall is decorated with a high pointed arch screen and the coupled sound openings are made of brick. A beamed ceiling has been installed in the light, spacious interior, the choir has a vaulted wooden ceiling (originally probably with a wooden barrel because of the high east window), the west gallery rests on a twisted column.

In the years 1996/97 the church was renovated inside; the roof was newly covered in 2010.

Furnishing

On the medieval block altar with consecration crosses stands a column-flanked altarpiece from 1703 with acanthus cheeks ; today's altarpiece is modern. The octagonal, cup-shaped sandstone baptismal font probably dates from the 14th century; the simple pulpit from the 18th century. Baroque prayer rooms with openwork panels were moved under the west gallery. Two tombstones with coats of arms were placed at the beginning of the 18th century.
