Franz F. Fürst (born May 16, 1900 in Berlin ; † 1979 ibid) was a German film architect .

Live and act

Fürst started his training at the Berlin drawing and painting school on Klosterstrasse when he was not even 16. In April of the same year, 1916, a four-year apprenticeship began at Georg Hartwig & Co. and attended the arts and crafts school in Berlin-Charlottenburg. He then worked as a backdrop painter at Berlin venues such as the Städtische Oper Berlin . Later he was also hired as a set designer.

In August 1938, Fürst was allowed to look after film decorations for the first time as a painter. Immediately before the outbreak of World War II in 1939, he made his debut as the second film architect alongside colleague Willy Schiller in a French-language film with Fernandel that was shot in Berlin . With his experienced colleague Otto Erdmann , whose designs Fürst carried out, he formed a permanent team of architects until 1945. When Erdmann moved to DEFA in 1946 , Fürst also went there. Initially he became part of an architects' collective, after 1952 Franz Fürst was mostly only active in the construction of designs by more important colleagues and as an outfitter and was most recently brought in for productions by Egon Günther .
