Franz Glaser (born November 18, 1948 in Burgauberg , Burgenland ) is an Austrian farmer and politician ( ÖVP ). From 2002 to 2013 he was a member of the National Council .

education and profession

Glaser attended elementary school in his home town of Burgauberg from 1955 to 1963 and then switched to the agricultural college in Güssing until 1966 . He passed the master's examination and did his military service in 1966. From 1970 to 1972 Glaser attended a private middle school.

Glaser was a development worker in the highlands of Peru from 1973 to 1976 and worked from 1977 to 1990 as the district manager of the ÖVP Güssing. From 1991 to 1992 he was the director of the farmers' union , and has been a farmer since 1992.

politics

Glaser was a member of the Burgauberg-Neudauberg municipal council from 1982 to 1987, and in 1987 he took over the office of mayor. Glaser was a member of the Burgenland Landtag from 1991 and club chairman of the ÖVP Landtag Club from 1996. On December 20, 2002, he moved to the Austrian National Council, of which he was a member until 2013. He represented the ÖVP through a mandate in constituency 1B (Burgenland Süd-Mitte), was ÖVP spokesman for development cooperation and a member of the committees for human rights, business, transport, justice, science and foreign policy.

Glaser was district party chairman of the ÖVP Güssing from 1992 to 2009.

From 2005 to 2014 he was chairman of the Institute for Environment, Peace and Development (IUFE) based in Vienna.

Private

Franz Glaser is married and has three children.
