Franz Hubert Timmermann, Dr. jur., was born on April 5, 1933 in Gelsenkirchen. The family comes from the Lower Rhine and Westphalia. His mother is the music teacher, pianist and composer Leni Timmermann (1901–1992). He attended the elementary school in Marl-Hüls and the high schools in Warstein and Marl. After graduating from high school, he studied economics and law at the University of Münster from 1952 to 1958 until his first state examination in law. After his legal traineeship in North Rhine-Westphalia from 1959 to 1962 and the second state examination in law, he worked as a judge at the Essen regional court in 1963, and as a doctoral candidate at the University of Münster from 1964 to 1968 (the protection of neighbors under building law ) and assistant at the Institute for Public Law and Politics, 1969– 1998 as a scientific advisor to the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. From 1998 he also works internationally as a music producer (label: Leni's Music LC 12492). He is committed to early musical education as well as promoting young people in choral practice. The Leni Timmermann Prize, which he initiated and was first awarded in 2005 to the German-Ukrainian pianist and music pedagogue Margarita Feinstein (born 1965), also serves this purpose.
