Franz Josef Jirak (born August 14, 1911 in Vienna ; † May 10, 1944 there ) was an Austrian dental technician and resistance fighter against the Nazi regime . He was sentenced to death by the Nazi judiciary and beheaded in the Vienna Regional Court .

Life

Jirak was a master dental technician and a member of the Central Committee of the KPÖ . He participated in the drafting of communist pamphlets, was arrested on July 14, 1942, and on March 10, 1944, for " favoring the enemy " and "preparing for high treason " by the People's Court to deathsentenced. In the grounds of the judgment it is stated: “Communist disintegration in war also undermines the resolve to fight at home and thus helps the enemy. The defendants [Franz Jirak and Karl Baubelik] were aware of this as intelligent people. With their deed they have made themselves allies of our bitterest enemy, Bolshevism, and worked towards a weakening of the Reich in its favor (Section 91b of the Criminal Code). The defendants were therefore convicted of favoring the enemy (Section 91b of the Criminal Code). Through years of grave betrayal they have stabbed their own people in the back in their fateful struggle against Bolshevism and plutocracy, only to plunge them into distress and disgrace by repeating the revolt of 1918. As a result, they made themselves forever dishonorable and were sentenced to death for the security of the empire. "

Jirak was on 10 May 1944, the guillotine executed.
