Franz Kielwein

Franz Kielwein (born March 14, 1903 in Neu Sandez ; † October 15, 1987 in Rankweil ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and ÖBB official. From 1959 to 1969 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

Kielwein attended elementary and secondary school and subsequently worked as a civil servant for the Austrian Federal Railways. He was transferred to St. Pölten and was dismissed from service during the rule of the National Socialists. In 1945 he was imprisoned as a hostage. After the end of the Second World War, Kielwein was employed in the personnel department of the ÖBB in Feldkirch. He was appointed chief inspector.

Politics and functions

Kielwein joined the Social Democratic Party in 1921 and was subsequently involved in local politics. From 1929 to 1934 he was a member of the Rankweil municipal council and treasurer. After the Second World War, he was again a member of the Rankweil municipal council from 1945 to 1970 and also a member of the municipal council from 1945 to 1970. He was a member of various committees and headed the personnel committee from 1955 to 1960. He was also a member of the municipal agency from 1957 to 1967, from 1958 to 1967 a member of the supervisory board of the community and from 1966 to 1970 he was the maker of documents for the Rankweil community.

Within the party, he worked from about 1957 as a member of the state party executive of the SPÖ Vorarlberg, he was also local party chairman of the SPÖ Rankweil and member of the state party control and the party arbitration court of the SPÖ Vorarlberg. As a member of the Feldkirch constituency, he represented the SPÖ from October 29, 1959 to October 28, 1969 in the Vorarlberg state parliament, where he was a member of the finance committee, member of the social policy committee and member of the agricultural committee.

Kielwein was also involved in 1920 as a founding member of FC Rankweil, was regional chairman of the Vorarlberger Volkshilfe, member of Naturfreunde Rankweil and chairman of the Feldkirch railway band.

Private

Franz Kielwein was the son of the ÖBB official Martin Kielwein (1873-1963) and his wife Emilie Kielwein (* 1878), née Kerth, born, his parents from Neu-Sandez in Galicia. Kielwein married Mathilde Dobler (1906–1988) from Rankweil in 1930, with whom he had a son (* 1939) and a daughter (* 1945).
