Franz Klopietz (born December 26, 1908 in Vienna , † 2003 in Emsdetten ) was a painter, sculptor and art teacher.

Life

The family moved to the beginning of the First World War by Moravian Ostrava , where he started school and the secondary school graduated. He studied painting and art education in Prague and Cracow, married Sophie with whom he had three children and lived with the family after the Second World War from 1946, first in Hembergen and then in Emsdetten . From 1951 to 1981 he taught as an art teacher at the Martinum grammar school in Emsdetten. Then he moved to his second home in Kleinwalsertal .

Works

Before the war, Klopietz was a modern landscape painter. In the Ems landscape in Hembergen in 1946, Klopietz began to paint again. His first pictures after the war are "Glück-im-Bad luck pictures" . From 1950 Klopietz used dull colors, the shape disappears, blue, blue-gray, anthracite, a pale yellow dominate. The forms are frozen or splintered. Style collages are created that have a radical abstraction. From the 1960s onwards, Klopietz only used found, used, inconspicuous material. It was mainly found objects: tin cans for material prints, aluminum waste for reliefs, working documents, and floor plans by architects.

Seen as a whole, Klopietz drawings from the 1970s are interior images. They are almost never abstract and only rarely clearly representational. As far as the objects are concerned, they are of extremely precise imprecision. As for the drawings, they are extremely precise. In the late seventies, the draftsman returned from the brooding seascape to the traditional motif: to ruins, grottos, and again to cityscapes. Tree motifs are often found. In 1980 he created spontaneously drawn landscape sketches. The drawing is becoming increasingly more abstract, more open, more risky. This is followed by a series of improvisations, variations and variants. He also rediscovered painting.
