Franz Korn (born February 5, 1940 ) is a former German soccer player who was active for Motor Bautzen in the GDR league between 1958 and 1976 .

Athletic career

Until 1957, Franz Korn played in the company sports association (BSG) Motor in Upper Lusatian Königswartha , most recently in the junior team . For the 1958 season (calendar year season) he moved to the second-rate GDR league club BSG Motor Bautzen at the age of 18. While he was only used once in the GDR league this season, he was already a regular as a striker in 1959 with 23 appearances in 26 league games and four goals. After he had contested 24 point games in 1960 and scored five goals, Motor Bautzen had to relegate from the GDR league and joined the third-class II GDR league in 1961/62 (return to the summer-spring game rhythm) . It was immediately promoted again, and Korn was then able to spend six more seasons in the I. GDR League. During this time he was able to maintain his regular place in the team with 155 appearances in 176 league games and continued to be a successful goalscorer. In 1966/67 he scored eleven goals and was the top scorer of his team. 1968 Motor Bautzen had to relegate again, now in the third-class district league Dresden (the 2nd GDR league had been discontinued). This time it was not until 1974 before Motor Bautzen returned to the GDR league. With four or two league appearances, Korn helped out in two seasons, after which, after the 1975/76 season, he ended his career as a competitive footballer at the age of 36. For Motor Bautzen he had played 209 games and scored 46 goals in eleven GDR league seasons. Later he got involved with BSG Motor and with the successor FSV Budissa Bautzen. At the FSV he was still a member of the honorary council in 2018 .
