Franz Kröwerath (* the 30th June 1880 , † 25. December 1945 ) was a German helmsman in rowing, who with the coxed four was 1900 Olympic third parties.

At the Olympic Games in 1900 , the first Olympic rowing competitions were held on the Seine in Paris. In a four with a helmsman, four boats should reach the final: the three preliminary winners and the fastest loser. The four-man from the Ludwigshafen rowing club with Carl Lehle , Ernst Felle , Hermann Wilker , Otto Fickeisen and helmsman Franz Kröwerath won the first run, but had a slower time than the third-placed boat in the third run. Therefore there were protests against the qualification, which should be corrected on August 26th in an elimination race. Not all participants had been informed about this, so some boats were missing, including the four from Ludwigshafen. Thereupon the decision was made to count the result of the elimination race as the official final result and to organize another official final on August 27th for the three boats that had missed this race. This compromise means that there will be two official finals for the 1900 Olympic Games with official Olympic champions, Olympic champions and Olympic thirds.

In addition to the Ludwigshafen boat, teams from Minerva Amsterdam and from the Hamburg and Germania Ruder Club competed for the second final on August 27th . The Hamburg team won the race by more than a boat length over the Amsterdam team, who in turn reached the finish just ahead of the Ludwigshafen team.
