Franz Kusmierek (born June 7, 1920 ) is a former German soccer player. He won the East German Cup with BSG Waggonbau Dessau and played for Dessau in the highest East German soccer league.

Athletic career

The first competition for the East German FDGB soccer cup was held in 1949 and ends with the 1-0 victory of the company sports association (BSG) Waggonbau Dessau over SG Gera-Süd . The only goal scorer was 29-year-old Franz Kusmierek, who was called up as a half-right striker.

With the cup victory, BSG Waggonbau had also qualified for the first season of the newly founded soccer zone league (later DS-Oberliga, GDR-Oberliga ). The squad for the 1949/50 season again included Kusmierek, who was used in the first league game and then played all the other championship games of the season. On the 18th matchday in the encounter between Waggonbau Dessau and Vorwärts Schwerin, he managed the feat of scoring six goals in a 10-0 win. In doing so, he laid the foundation for being Dessauer's top scorer with 15 goals at the end of the season. In the list of the best scorers in the league, he came fourth.

Then he tried his luck at the West Berlin club Wacker 04 in the Berlin contract league . However, he quickly returned to Dessau, but first had to serve a four-month suspension. It was not until January 21, 1951, the 20th match day, that Kusmierek played another league game for the Dessau team, which was now called BSG Motor and played in the also renamed DS-Oberliga. By the end of the season he played a total of 15 league games, but only scored one goal.

For the season 1951/52 Kusmierek was for the last time in the upper league squad of BSG Motor Dessau. He played the first nine point games, initially as a defender, and finally as a striker. After that he was no longer used. He had played 50 first division games and scored 16 goals.
