Franz Langewand

Johann Franz Langewand (born March 3, 1871 in Osnabrück ; † March 19, 1952 there ) was a craftsman and German politician ( MdL in Prussia) of the Center Party .

Life and work

The worker's son learned the locksmith's trade and went into business for himself as a master locksmith in Osnabrück in 1898 with a partner. The "construction equipment factory Hagedorn & Langewand" produced u. a. Heating systems and wheelbarrows. Langewand was a long-time member of the local locksmith's guild and from 1903 to 1935 a board member of the Chamber of Crafts. During the First World War he served as a deputy sergeant. Together with his wife Maria he had two sons, Heinrich (1901–1966) and Franz Langewand jun. (1912-1984).

Political activity until 1933

Langewand's political career took place during the Weimar Republic. In 1919 he became the deputy secretary of the Center Party for the area of ​​the former duchy of Osnabrück (roughly today's city and district of Osnabrück). In the same year he was elected to the Prussian Constitutional National Assembly. As early as 1920, Langewand made room for the influential worker functionary Josef Hagemann for reasons of party political action . Langewand, who was also deputy chairman of the center's Osnabrück city association, was elected to the Prussian state parliament in 1932 and again in 1933 . After the seizure of power had the Nazis against which Langewand repeatedly turned, he retired from politics.

Political activity after 1945

Due to his old age and the loss of his house by bombing, Langewand was no longer active in politics after 1945. He welcomed the founding of the CDU as an interdenominational Christian Democratic party.
