Franz Nöpl

Franz Seraph Nöpl (born February 21, 1857 in Gänswies near Neureichenau , † July 3, 1949 in Passau ) was a German Catholic priest.

Career

Nöpl was ordained a priest on April 10, 1882. In the following years he worked as an assistant priest in various parishes, including ten years as a cooperator in the large forest parish of Zwiesel. In 1903 he became pastor in Freyung, and in 1928 he came to the Maierhof Hospital in Passau as a curate .

Because of his commitment to the weak, he was called the "father of the poor". On the occasion of his 65th jubilee as a priest, he was awarded honorary citizenship of the city of Passau in April 1947. Most recently he was the oldest clergyman in the Diocese of Passau .
