He also served in World War I, where he was awarded the Silver Medal for Bravery.

Franz Riedmann was politically active as a member of the Social Democratic Party and was sworn in on June 17, 1920 as a member of the Feldkirch constituency in the Vorarlberg state parliament . He resigned his mandate on May 7, 1920, because on February 25, 1920 the Feldkirch Regional Court found him guilty of “the crime of public violence through dangerous threats against government officials in official matters”. The court sentenced Riedmann to "6 weeks of dungeon tightened with a hard camp", whereby Riedmann lodged a nullity appeal against the judgment. Riedmann was subsequently acquitted by the Supreme Court in Vienna.
