Franz Schmidt (* 1825 in Berlin ; † 1888 there ) was a German mechanic .

Life

Franz Schmidt had trained as a mechanic with Wilhelm Langhoff. The mechanic Franz Schmidt then worked in a small workshop for physical apparatus in Berlin on Alexandrinenstrasse, which he had taken over after the death of the workshop owner Pawlowski in 1859. Franz Schmidt specialized in the manufacture of polarization instruments.

In 1864 Franz Schmidt inherited 8,000 thalers. On April 24, 1864, together with the mechanic and optician Herrmann Haensch, he founded the company Franz Schmidt & Haensch in Berlin, at Dragonerstraße 19. Franz Schmidt was responsible for the saccharimeters and polarization instruments and Herrmann Haensch for microscopes and spectroscopes .

The company changed location several times, so it later moved to Schönhauserstraße 2 and then to Prinzessinnenstraße 16. The current headquarters of Schmidt + Haensch GmbH & Co. is located at Waldstraße 80/81 in Berlin-Reinickendorf.

Services

Franz Schmidt advocated the establishment of the First Crafts School Berlin, today Beuth University of Technology Berlin, from the funds of the professional association “Berliner Mechaniker” (today the German Society for Mechanics and Optics ) .
