Franz Schrangl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Schrangl (born July 27, 1897 in Steyr , † July 9, 1945 in Vöcklabruck ) was an Austrian politician ( SDAP ) and locksmith. Schrangl was a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament from 1931 to 1934 .

Schrangl worked professionally as a locksmith and politically worked as a local councilor for Steyr. He was a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag between May 15, 1931 and February 12, 1934, where he lost his mandate in the wake of the ban on the Social Democratic Party as a result of the outbreak of the Austrian civil war . Before the Austrian Civil War, Schrangl was one of the spokesmen for armed resistance, but made little appearance in the civil war. As district chairman of the Social Democrats in Steyr, however, he took part in the meeting with Richard Bernaschek on May 11, 1934 , in which the decision was made to respond to a search for weapons in the Hotel Schiff with violent resistance. A trial against Schrangl was referred to due process by a court martial on February 17, 1934.

After 1938 he took over the function of district office manager of Vöcklabruck in the National Socialist People's Welfare . This is seen as a possible indication that the National Socialists were active in the background during the February uprising of the Social Democrats.
