Franz Theuer

Franz Theuer (born December 27, 1922 in Podersdorf am See ; † May 2, 2003 in Schützen am Gebirge ) was an Austrian historian and member of the Federal Gendarmerie .

Life

Theuer was drafted into the German army at the age of 19 and was seriously wounded in World War II . After the end of the war he was taken prisoner in Yugoslavia . An often used quote from Theuer reads: “Better to negotiate for 100 years than to wage war for just one day.” Theuer was in the service of the Austrian Federal Gendarmerie for 40 years, most recently with the rank of Colonel, and was largely responsible for its development and management in Burgenland . He became known for his publications on historical topics. He retired on March 31, 1987, but wrote for the rest of his life.
