Franz Walcher

Franz Walcher (born September 29, 1897 in Donawitz , † September 1, 1950 in Spittal an der Drau ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1945 to 1949 he was a member of the Austrian National Council .

Life

After finishing elementary school, Walcher attended a hotel management school in Vienna and learned the profession of hotel manager. He also trained at the Vienna Workers' College. As a result, Walcher also worked for socialist newspapers such as the Arbeiterwill and the Arbeiter-Zeitung . Due to his political commitment, Walcher was arrested in the course of the Austrian Civil War in 1934 and sentenced to 12 years of heavy imprisonment. He was placed in solitary confinement in the Karlau prison , but was given amnesty and fled to Czechoslovakia . As a result, Walcher emigrated to France , but returned to Austria in 1941.

Walcher was politically active as the district chairman of the SPÖ Spittal an der Drau, between December 19, 1945 and November 8, 1949, he represented the SPÖ as a member of the National Council. He was also a member of the Carinthian regional party leadership and a member of the press committee.
