from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

origin

The variety 'Franzens Wilde' is a local variety from the Mochau area . According to oral tradition, it was bred there in 1850 on Gut Gödelitz . Whereby the addition of the name Wilde suggests that it was a random seedling that was found . In 2003, fourteen trees of the 'Franzens Wilde' variety were rediscovered in the Lommatzscher care department and included as a variety in the German fruit genebank. There it says that it was first described in 1932. It is included in the red list of endangered indigenous crops without being held in a genebank.

Legend

There is a legend that the variety 'Franzens Wilde' was propagated by a gardener Franz at Gut Gödelitz. He paid special attention to these trees, the fruits of which were "clear and pure, large and lovely, delicate and sugar-sweet in taste". They were sold by his beautiful daughter on the market in Lommatzsch . When the gardener waited for his daughter on market days, he would stand on a high ladder and look out for her. So it remained unclear what the people meant when they mocked “Franzens seine Wilde” in such days.
