The Franziskanerbrunnen is a fountain in the Swiss city of Solothurn in front of the Franciscan Church .

history

The fountain originally stood in the back courtyard of the house at Hauptgasse No. 58. The inscribed date of origin 1628 relates to the approval for the construction of a fountain in the courtyard of Junker Hans Jakob Wallier on August 14, 1628. It has been on the site of 1952 since 1960 abandoned Giblin mill.

description

The well consists of a relatively small, hexagonal trough with a strongly profiled and bulging well wall. Pushed thereto is a free-standing fountain floor with rich Zierrat : profiled and fratze decorated pedestal , it fluted column with pipes, surmounted by a Corinthian capital .

The fountain tube emerges from a grimace; above it is a cartello with the year 1628 and a stonemason's mark . The whole work is made of Solothurn limestone , has been heavily revised and partially replaced by copies.
