The Franciscan Monastery of Lindau was a Franciscan monastery in Lindau in Lake Constance .
history
In 1224, Abbess Offemia von Pflegelberg founded the Franciscan monastery in Lindau. Since 1239 it belonged to the Upper German (Strasbourg) Province of the Order ( Kustodie Bodensee). In the 14th century the monastery joined the Franciscan Observant Movement . In 1528 the monastery, from whose ranks the first Reformation preacher in Lindau came, was closed.
The books in the monastery library ended up in the Lindau Imperial City Library , which was founded in 1538 . The former monastery church now houses the Lindau City Theater, which was first played in 1887 and reopened on May 19, 1951 with Mozart's “ Marriage of Figaro ”.
