Napoleon Orda (born February 11, 1807 in Worocewicze near Iwanawa , Russian Empire , † April 26, 1883 in Warsaw ) was a Polish composer , pianist and painter . He created around 1000 sketches and paintings of Poland as well as some landscape views of other countries.

Life

Orda graduated from high school in the city of Svislach in 1823 and then began studying mathematics at Vilnius University . In 1826 he was expelled from the university and further studies because he was accused of membership in a revolutionary student association.

After the November uprising in 1830/1831 Orda had to leave Poland in order to avoid exile to Siberia , as he had fought in the Fourth Rifle Regiment (Pułk Czwartaków). For this he received the Polish order Virtuti Militari . Via Italy and Switzerland he came to Paris , where he met Frédéric Chopin and other musicians, among others . In exile, which lasted until 1856, he wrote various books, including in 1838 about Polish composers.

In the Russian thaw after the lost Crimean War , Orda was granted an amnesty and returned to Russia. He got his fortune back. He had to fight for a few more years for the country estate where he was born.

Orda traveled through Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine and Belarus from 1873 until his death in the Russian Empire, leaving behind an album of drawings and watercolors.
