Formerly the Imperial City Library of Lindau

The former Reichsstädtische Bibliothek Lindau (ERBe) in the Old Town Hall (1422) in the Bavarian city ​​of Lindau (Lake Constance) is a special part of the city archive with around 15,000 volumes. It is the largest historic council and citizens library on the northern shore of Lake Constance resolved and is likely to book collections of 1528 subsequent to the Reformation, the Franciscan Friars Minor belonging to the Franciscan monastery are based. The order of the book inventory introduced around 1780, still subdivided according to size format, names the following 17 departments:

Mb - alchemy
N - Church history
O - literary history
P - Mixed writings and manuscripts

A handwritten location catalog was created in 1855/56 and provided with additions or revision notes until around 1950. The catalog is available online as a PDF file. The library can be used scientifically as a reference library.

Redesign

In 2013 the old town hall with the library was rebuilt for around 320,000 euros: in addition to temperature control, a vestibule and a presentation wall, a glass cube was installed to protect the valuable books.
