Franzosenschlucht viaduct

The Franzosenschlucht Viaduct is a bridge on the federal motorway 8 on the Albaufstieg over the Franzosenschlucht near Gruibingen in Baden-Württemberg . The bridge was first built between 1934 and 1936 as a two-lane motorway. In the course of the expansion of the Albaufstieg, the bridge was demolished and, from 1987, replaced by a modern bridge with three lanes in each direction. The new bridge has separate substructures and superstructures for each lane, as the viaduct is slightly curved. The six bridge fields in the Munich lane have a total length of 234 meters, while the eight bridge fields in the direction of Stuttgart are 314 meters long. The superstructures consist of continuous pre-stressed concrete box girders with a cantilevered deck.
