The Franzosenwald is a forest south of Seitenstetten in Lower Austria .

Military cemetery

The Franzosenwald is a resting place for Austrian soldiers who fell between 1796 and 1800 in the Second Coalition War and for French soldiers who fell in the Third Coalition War , when they also advanced via Seitenstetten in autumn 1805 after the battle at Steyr was won . On a wrought-iron cross in the forest is written: “Here rest 176 Austrian soldiers who bled in the holy battle against the French and who, as a result of severe wounds, found their suffering in the military hospital of the Seitenstetten Abbey in the years 1796–1800 . "And next to it" French soldiers who died of serious injuries in the monastery hospital also rest here. "

The war cemetery was restored and expanded in 1990 by the Austrian Black Cross , war grave provision in cooperation with the ÖKB local association Seitenstetten.
