The Stiftsgymnasium Seitenstetten is a public collegiate high school of the Benedictines in Seitenstetten ( Lower Austria ) with a humanistic focus and a modern language branch.
history
A grammar school was founded in the Seitenstetten Abbey under Abbot Columban Zehetner. At the request of the abbot in 1814, the collegiate high school was elevated to a public high school. In 1814/1815 a Konvikt was built which accommodated 45 students in the first year.
In 1871 the episcopal boys' seminar "Marianum" was moved from Krems an der Donau to Seitenstetten, where it existed until 2006.
The National Socialist rule in Austria also had consequences for the Stiftsgymnasium Seitenstetten, as its public rights were revoked in 1938. However, the collegiate high school was able to resume school operations as early as October 2, 1945.
Since 1972, girls have also been able to graduate from the collegiate high school .
