The Bundesgymnasium und Bundesrealgymnasium Franklinstrasse 21 (GRg21) is one of the two grammar schools on Franklinstrasse in Floridsdorf , Vienna . It is closer to the train station than the Gymnasium Franklinstraße 26 . In October 2014 there were around 850 students in 33 classes at the school, who were taught by almost 90 teachers. The Gymnasium called 21er is one of the few schools in Austria where ancient Greek is taught.
history
The school was built as the first grammar school in Floridsdorf in 1900, and classes began on September 21, 1900. The then purely boys' school consisted of a building with an adjoining school yard and a nearby sports field.
From 1949 the school was given co-education . After the Second World War , the school was so badly damaged that it had to be renovated. Therefore in 1955 a pavilion was added for lessons in the school yard. The general renovation was completed in 1975, but in 1993 a school pavilion was added temporarily, which could accommodate ten classes. In 1998 planning work began for a new building, which was completed in October 2000. Currently (2014) there are mainly special rooms and a few classes.
The school currently (2014) consists of an old building on Franklinstrasse and a new building adjacent to Schliemanngasse. The schoolyard and the reading courtyard are located between the two buildings. The reading courtyard consists of a ramp that leads to the connection between the old building and the new building. On the other side of this connection is the school yard, which is surrounded by old and new buildings.
The high school is connected to the Vienna Internet Exchange via a fiber optic cable with a 1000 Mbit / s connection .
Education, sport and leisure
The 21er offers a secondary school with French as the second living foreign language from the 7th grade and Latin from the 9th grade, or with Latin from the 7th grade and French or ancient Greek from the 9th grade, as well as a Realgymnasium that focuses on mathematics with additional geometric drawing (GZ) (with French or Latin from the 9th grade).
In addition, a wide range of non-binding exercises , most of which take place in the afternoon, is provided.
The nearby youth sports facility Ringelseeplatz is used for sports lessons in summer.
Supervised afternoon care is available for leisure activities, or the nearby skater area with a large lawn and the water park next door.
