The Stiftsgymnasium Admont (also: Stiftsgymnasium der Benediktiner in Admont ) is a modern language grammar school and secondary school as well as secondary school with a focus on music in Admont . It is run by the Benedictines of Admont Abbey as a private school with public rights and is located in an extension of the abbey building. The collegiate high school has existed since 1644.

history

Abbot Urban Weber (also known as Urban Textor ) founded a grammar school in the rooms of the former monastery in 1644. Since 1820 this was run as a lower-level grammar school and was dedicated to the training of the choir boys residing in the monastery, this form existed until 1921. In that year the grammar school was founded in its current form and was also given public rights. At the beginning and until the 1970s most of the students were housed in the boarding school (Konvikt). The grammar school was closed from 1938 to 1945, and the new rulers housed a “high school for boys” in the monastery. In 2012, allegations of serious sexual abuse from the 1970s also came to the public for the first time. The boarding school was closed in the 1999/2000 school year. From the 1973/74 school year, girls were admitted to the Stiftsgymnasium; In this year the school building was also rebuilt, in 1993 and 2004 it was expanded and fundamentally renovated between 2014 and 2018.
