Michael Fleischhacker (2016)

Michael Fleischhacker (born May 26, 1969 in Friesach , Carinthia ) is an Austrian journalist and television presenter .

Professional background

Fleischhacker grew up in Sankt Lambrecht in Styria , graduated from the Stiftsgymnasium Admont and studied theology, classical philology and German studies in Graz, although he did not complete these courses. Fleischhacker began his journalistic career in April 1991 at the Kleine Zeitung , where he initially worked as an editor in the foreign policy department. In 1994 he became editor-in-chief, from 1995 to 1997 chief of service and from 1998/99 deputy editor-in-chief of the paper. From 1998 he was also responsible for the areas of strategy development and new media as publishing director.

In 2000 Michael Fleischhacker moved to the Viennese daily Der Standard , where he was on duty until 2001. From 2002 he worked for the daily newspaper Die Presse and from September 2004 to October 2012 its editor-in-chief and managing director. In October 2012 he resigned as press editor-in-chief and initially became a freelance journalist with regular columns in several Austrian publications.

In July 2014, Fleischhacker joined the Talk team as a television presenter in Hangar-7 of the Austrian private broadcaster ServusTV .

From mid-2014, Fleischhacker was at NZZ Austria , where he was initially responsible for setting up an online service for the Austrian market and then working as editor-in-chief and co-managing director of the resulting digital medium. In November 2016, Fleischhacker retired as editor-in-chief of the medium in order to concentrate more on writing and moderating in the future and to be able to better perceive his new job as the sole host of Talk in Hangar 7 . NZZ.at itself was discontinued on April 30, 2017.

Since April 1, 2017 Michael Fleischhacker has been managing director of "Quo Vadis Veritas Redaktions GmbH" (QVV), a company of the non-profit Quo Vadis Veritas private foundation of Dietrich Mateschitz, together with Niko Alm . Fleischhacker took over the development of the journalistic organization. In September 2017, QVV presented the Addendum research platform , whose editor-in-chief and publisher is Fleischhacker. From March 2019, he alternated with Gundula Geiginger at ServusTV and also moderated the Factum magazine, which was largely co-designed by Addendum . The magazine was already discontinued after three months. Fleischhacker justified this with the fact that they were too optimistic with regard to the content and quality requirements.

Private life

Michael Fleischhacker is the father of five children.
