Frauenfelderstrasse (into town)

The Frauenfelderstraße is a transport body in the 17th district of Vienna in the district part Dornbach . Located between Hernalser Hauptstrasse and Alszeile , it forms an urban unit with Dr.-Josef-Resch-Platz (formerly Frauenfelderplatz ).

History and characteristics

The ensemble of Frauenfelderstrasse, Dr.-Josef-Resch-Platz and a few short side streets goes back to plans from around 1900. The front gardens, which are extremely rare in the densely built-up area of Vienna, are a curiosity. Those interested in architecture are familiar with Frauenfelderstrasse, especially because of the ÖBV residential building at No. 14, which was built between 1990 and 1993, and the mobile façade of the building made it famous. Most of the buildings in the street association, however, date from the early 20th century and have a rather sparse facade. On Resch-Platz there are some more sophisticated buildings from the period between 1910 and 1934, including the Halirschgasse elementary school , the Atonement Church , the expressionist rear facade of the Türkenritthof (architect Paul Hoppe ) and the residential building at No. 14 (architect Oskar Marmorek , penned by him also the partly disassembled apartment buildings opposite on nos. 3 and 4 originate).

Institutions and society

While the street today (with the exception of a few doctor's offices and childcare facilities) is used exclusively for residential purposes, there is a parish church and a pensioner's club next to a school and a park. At the western end of the street is the Wiener Sportclub-Platz , which is considered to be the oldest football field in Austria that is still used and which ensures increased footfall on match days . It also functions as an event location (for example for the annual sports and music event Goodball ) and is the seat of the socially committed fan club Friedhofstribüne and the business network Dornbach Networks . In addition to the usual, the church also hosts flea markets and concerts. In addition, street festivals are organized irregularly by a neighborhood initiative that advocates a resident-oriented redesign of Frauenfelderstrasse at the expense of stationary traffic.
