Fraunhofer (unit)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fraunhofer , named after the German physicist Joseph von Fraunhofer , is an outdated unit that was mainly used to determine the wavelength resolution of spectral lines in atomic and molecular spectroscopy .

If the width of a spectral line corresponds to the bandwidth of 10 −6 in the center of this line, then this line has a width of 1 Fraunhofer.
