Freddy André Øvstegård (born December 20, 1994 in Fredrikstad ) is a Norwegian politician of the Sosialistisk Venstreparti (SV). He has been a member of parliament in Storting since 2017 .

Life

Øvstegård, who studied political science at the University of Oslo from 2013 to 2016 , headed the youth organization Sosialistisk Ungdom (SU) in the then Østfold province from 2011 to 2013 . In the period between 2014 and 2016, he was finally head of environmental policy on the board of the all-Norwegian SU and then until 2018 the organization's deputy chairman.

In the 2017 parliamentary elections , Øvstegård became the representative of Østfold constituency in the Norwegian national parliament in Storting after receiving a compensatory mandate . He ran as the top candidate of the SV in Østfold and became the youngest MP in the 2017-2020 legislative period . Øvstegård became a member of the Family and Culture Committee and the Control and Constitutional Committee.

Together with two party colleagues, he proposed Greta Thunberg for the Nobel Peace Prize in January 2019 .
