Lord Frederick Charles Cavendish

Lord Frederick Charles Cavendish (born November 30, 1836 in Eastbourne , Sussex, † May 6, 1882 in Dublin ) was a British liberal politician.

From 1865 to 1882 he was a Member of the House of Commons . His mentor was the British Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone , who appointed him Chief Secretary for Ireland in May 1882 . Barely a few hours in office, he and Undersecretary for Ireland Thomas Henry Burke were murdered by the nationalist group Irish National Invincibles in Phoenix Park , Dublin . This attack is also known today as the Phoenix Park murders .

He was born the second son of William Cavendish, 7th Duke of Devonshire , in Eastbourne , Sussex . His brother Spencer Cavendish, 8th Duke of Devonshire , was also a Liberal MP before he moved to the House of Lords under the courtesy title of Marquess of Hartington .
