Frederick Courtney Tarr

Frederick Courtney Tarr (born May 6, 1896 in Baltimore , † August 31, 1939 in Princeton ) was an American Romance scholar and Hispanist .

life and work

Tarr graduated from Johns Hopkins University . He received his doctorate in 1921 from Princeton University under Charles Carroll Marden with the work Prepositional complementary clauses in Spanish with special reference to the works of Pérez Galdós (Revue Hispanique 56, New York 1922). Tarr was at Princeton Assistant Professor (1922), Associate Professor (1928) and (as successor to his teacher) holder of the Emery L. Ford Chair of Spanish (1937).
