Frederick Richard McCarthy (born October 15, 1881 in Stratford , Ontario , † February 15, 1974 in Toronto , Ontario) was a Canadian cyclist .
Life and athletic career
Frederick McCarthy took part in all seven cycling competitions at the 1908 Summer Olympics. In the team pursuit he won the bronze medal together with William Anderson , Walter Andrews and William Morton , the only Olympic cycling medal for Canada until 1984. In the individual disciplines, he could never reach the final. In July 1910, after participating in several award races at the Newark Velodrome , he was classified as a professional. In the same year he drove a six-day race in Boston , where he was eighth. He was active as a professional until 1914, but did not win a significant race. Outside of cycling, he worked as a candy maker.
