Frederik Adolf Kjellin

Frederik Adolf Kjellin (born April 27, 1872 in Vårdinge , Stockholm County ; † December 30, 1910 ) was a Swedish chemist who invented the induction melting furnace.

After attending schools in Örebro and Stockholm , he studied chemistry at the KTH there .

In 1899 he built his first induction melting furnace in Gysinge . In the following year this was replaced by a significantly larger one with a capacity of 1.8 t. It was intended for an annual steel production of 1500 tons.

In 1903, Dr. Hermann Röchling acquired his patent on electric induction ovens.

In 1904 Kjellin became a partner in Metallurgiska AB . Together with P. Härden he founded the Allians engineering firm .

In 1907, Uppsala University made him an honorary doctorate in recognition of his services to the development of electric steelmaking.

He died of a stroke .
